Baseball Game Preview: Alvirne Broncos vs. Timberlane Owls

The Alvirne Broncos will take on the Timberlane Owls at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Alvirne turned things around against Keene on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Blackbirds 7-5. The Broncos' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alex Small spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Charlie Crawford and Mikey Bebris did most of the damage at the plate: Crawford went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Bebris got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was Bebris' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Timberlane posted their closest victory since May 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Bishop Guertin 9-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Owls.

Alvirne's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 2-9. As for Timberlane, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.
