Basketball Recap: Veterans Memorial's Loss Ends 17-Game Winning Streak at Home

Veterans Memorial entered their match against Wagner on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Veterans Memorial Patriots fell 60-52 to the Wagner Thunderbirds. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-38 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Veterans Memorial lost, don't look at Dj Jordan. Despite the final result, he posted 15 points and six boards. Jordan is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Cj Shanklin was another key player, putting up six points.

Wagner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daimen Ramirez led the charge by posting 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Ramirez has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trevaun Clark, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 16 points.

Veterans Memorial's loss ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-13. As for Wagner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.

Veterans Memorial and Wagner should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Veterans Memorial will challenge Tivy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 308 places (159 vs. 467). Veterans Memorial will be looking to keep their 17-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. Similarly, Wagner (ranked 28th) will meet Smithson Valley (ranked 297th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
