Basketball Recap: South Lake Takes a Loss

South Lake lost against Leesburg back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Lake Eagles had to suffer through a 58-14 loss at the hands of the Leesburg Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 62nd).

Molly Burke was South Lake's leading scorer, having posted six points. Zoe Sheffield held things down on the boards with ten rebounds. Jazmyn Robles took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Leesburg found their leader in freshman Alysya Smith, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Campbell, who earned nine points.

South Lake has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Leesburg, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

South Lake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-30 defeat against Eustis on the 30th. As for Leesburg, they will welcome Hope Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
