Football Recap: Poteau Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

While it was Poteau who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Hilldale who put up more. The Pirates received a blow as they fell 36-22 to the Hornets. The Pirates were up 22-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

When it comes to explaining why Poteau lost, don't look at Sam Tecla. Despite the final result, he threw for 70 yards and three TDs on perfect 9-for-9 passing. The Pirates also got a significant boost from Spencer Perry, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.

Hilldale had a senior duo take command as Dawson Fields threw for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes and Brady Scott gained 113 total yards and three touchdowns. Fields' passing game has become a key predictor of the Hornets' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise.

Poteau's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Hilldale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Poteau didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-14 loss against Broken Bow on the 7th. As for Hilldale, they have also already played their next game, a 28-7 win against McLain Science & Tech on the 7th.
