Baseball Game Preview: Schurr Spartans vs. Montebello Oilers

For the second straight game, Schurr will face off against Montebello. The Spartans will host the Oilers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Montebello hit Schurr with a five-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 6-1 to the Oilers.

For Montebello's part, Isaac Solorzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. Solorzano has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Roberto Barraza was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Elijah Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Montebello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Schurr's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Montebello, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
