Softball Recap: Milpitas Trojans vs. Mountain View Spartans

Milpitas extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the Mountain View Spartans. Trojans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Spartans since on Tuesday.

Marissa Gil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits.

On the hitting side, Chloe Cabrera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

As for Mountain View, they pushed their record up to 7-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Five seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Mountain View's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Allison Marcelino gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. Marcelino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mountain View's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Anika Upadhyay, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI was Upadhyay's first of the season. Kasey Spaulding was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
