Basketball Preview: Loris Lions vs. Aynor Blue Jackets
Loris is 10-0 against the Blue Jackets since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Loris Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Aynor Blue Jackets at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Loris gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Georgetown 67-11 at home. Given Loris' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Loris can attribute much of their success to Dazena Capers, who scored 17 points along with five steals, and Janiya Richburg, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Richburg is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Mariasia Moody was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Aynor scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They breezed by Georgetown on the road to the tune of 58-23. That looming 58-23 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Aynor yet this season.
Loris' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-13. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Aynor, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8.
Everything came up roses for Loris against the Blue Jackets when the teams last played two weeks ago as the team secured a 67-31 win. With Loris ahead 34-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
