Baseball Recap: Murrieta Mesa Comes Up Short

Murrieta Mesa extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-17. They lost 14-7 to the Chaparral Pumas. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pumas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-5 on Tuesday.

Murrieta Mesa saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JD Nelson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

As for Chaparral, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Chaparral's side, they got a great performance from Colby Creamer as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Creamer a new career-high.

At the plate, Chaparral let Dean Mariani and Xaiden Castillo run wild. Mariani went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double, while Castillo went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Mariani has become a key player for Chaparral: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 11-12 otherwise. Jaiden Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs.

While Murrieta Mesa had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
