The Marathon Dolphins will be taking part in a tournament against the Ransom Everglades Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Marathon saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They blew past Miami Country Day 16-1. The win continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jason Stubblefield Jr., who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jack Chapman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Marathon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Ransom Everglades came into Wednesday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) with a sharp 9-2 victory on Wednesday.
Jorge Gross was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Enrique MacIas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Marathon pushed their record up to 15-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ransom Everglades, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marathon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Ransom Everglades struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marathon beat Ransom Everglades 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Dolphins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
