Football Recap: Poth Skates Past Cotulla with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Poth's strategy against Cotulla on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 45-6 final score. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won three games by 36 points or more so far this season.

Poth's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Payton Helford, who rushed for 163 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries. Helford is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another pass catcher making a difference was Antonio DeHoyos, who picked up 115 receiving yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Poth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 314 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Poth's third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.7 points on average over those games. As for Cotulla, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
