Baseball Recap: Pickens Comes Up Short

Pickens extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-16 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Seneca Bobcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Flame of the 8-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Pickens saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Ferguson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

As for Seneca, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-4. Considering they have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Seneca's side, William Cutshall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Cutshall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Rafael Little was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cullen McGhee, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

While Pickens had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
