Basketball Recap: Riverside Skates Past Twin Loup with Ease

Riverside's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They breezed by the Twin Loup Wolves to the tune of 57-30. With the Chargers ahead 32-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Riverside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Mahony out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Mahony is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Weltruski, who posted 18 points and six rebounds.

Riverside was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Twin Loup's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaelynn Blackburn, who put up six points and 16 rebounds, and Ragan Mauler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Blackburn is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game.

With the victory, Riverside broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-6. As for Twin Loup, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

Riverside is taking a road trip to challenge Madison at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. After both having extra time off, Twin Loup and Chambers/Wheeler Central will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
