Softball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-6. They came up short against the Providence Pioneers, falling 16-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Musketeers of the 5-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Providence, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average this season.

For Providence's part, Lainey Weber (2028) was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Weber (2028) was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Presley Hegedus (2026) was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Livy Theobald (2026), who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Eastern has already played their next game, a 21-9 defeat against Salem on the 16th. As for Providence, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-1 win against Clarksville on the 20th.
