It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Grovetown ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 22-21 photo finish over the Thomson Bulldogs. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 20-13 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Thomson lost, don't look at Markevion Jones. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 117 yards and one TD.

The win made it two in a row for Grovetown and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 28 points in those games. As for Thomson, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

After each having a week off, Grovetown and Grayson will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Warriors 14.8, the Rams 14.5) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Thomson, they will challenge Swainsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' defense has only allowed 10.2 points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
