Football Recap: Independence Eagles vs. Lincoln County Falcons
Independence blew Lincoln County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Lincoln County got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 23-21. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2016.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matthew Horner, who threw for 249 yards and a pair of TDs.
Independence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hunter Mullen and Brody Bullock.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trashawn Jean, who picked up 86 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Carsen Carter was another key player, rushing for 64 yards and one TD on only nine carries.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Lincoln County, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will host Columbia Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln County, they will square off against Battle Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
