Baseball Recap: Fort Morgan's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Fort Morgan dropped their record down to 12-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Brush Beetdiggers by a score of 4-3. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Beetdiggers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

JJ Marquez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samson Ortega was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Brush, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Brush's side, Landon Mesch was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Keeton Jilek, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Fort Morgan will be playing at home against Niwot at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Brush, they will face off against Thomas More Prep-Marian at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
