Volleyball Recap: Taylor Denike's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dobbs Ferry over Putnam Valley

Dobbs Ferry entered their matchup against Putnam Valley on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Eagles lost 3-0 to the Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 last Tuesday.

While Dobbs Ferry ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.

Dobbs Ferry lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Taylor Denike, who had 12 kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks. She has been hot, having posted seven or more kills the last seven times she's played. Natasha Mansfield was another key player, getting 13 digs.

Dobbs Ferry suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 11-2. As for Putnam Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Coming up, Dobbs Ferry will square off against Croton-Harmon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Putnam Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st.
