Preview: Hondo Valley Eagles vs. Alamo Navajo Cougars
The Hondo Valley Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Alamo Navajo Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Hondo Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-37 to Carrizozo. Hondo Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
In what's become a running theme this season, Alamo Navajo gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Corona/Vaughn 70-28 at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Alamo Navajo had established a 38 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alamo Navajo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Scotty Guerro, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Guerro is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Jacob Apache was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Hondo Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Alamo Navajo, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
Hondo Valley was taken down by Alamo Navajo 83-49 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Hondo Valley, Mathias Apachito (who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
