Baseball Recap: Dove Creek Drops Highest Score of Season Against La Veta

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dove Creek). They blew past the La Veta Redhawks 21-13 on Saturday.

Cael Beanland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Dove Creek's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Beanland was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Liam Hassell was incredible, going 4-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Konner Spigner, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Dove Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Veta struck out 14 times.

Dove Creek's record is now 5-7. As for La Veta, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-3 record.

Looking ahead, Dove Creek will venture away from home to challenge Dolores at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Veta, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-8 victory against Nucla on the 19th.
