Texas high school football: Clifton Cooper, Blake Flowers top state passing yardage leaders

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Cooper and Flowers are the only two signal callers in the state over the 2,000-yard mark.

Clifton Cooper of Ponder and Blake Flowers of Seminole top the list of passing yardage leaders in the state of Texas, according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

Cooper is averaging nearly 470 yards through the air per game for 3-2 Prosper for a total of 2,349 yards with 26 touchdowns. The 6-foot-1 senior has topped 500 yards three times this fall and could reach the 7,000-yard mark for his career.

Flowers has thrown for 2,342 yards and 29 scores while helping Seminole to a 5-1 record. In his last outing, the 6-3 senior completed 31 of 41 attempts for 432 yards and five scores in a 63-28 win over Big Spring. Flowers has thrown for over 300 yards in all six games and has reached 400 yards three times.

Armando Lujan of Sunray is just shy of 2,000 yards for the season after throwing for 472 yards and five touchdowns last week in a 47-14 triumph over Roscoe to take over the No. 3 spot with 1,957 yards. Jacob Vaughan of Liberty Christian (Argyle) and Gavin Rutherford of Cinco Ranch (Katy) round out the top five with 1,872 and 1,794 yards, respectively.
