Baseball Preview: St. James Saints vs. GVCS Broadfording Lions        
        
		
            
 The St. James Saints will head out on the road to  challenge  the GVCS Broadfording Lions at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. St. James is no doubt hoping to put an end to  an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
 St. James is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another  highly-ranked state team: Potomac School, who was ranked first at the time (St. James was ranked 15th). St. James took  a  6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Potomac School last Tuesday.
 Meanwhile, GVCS Broadfording can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent  contest  on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Berkeley Springs with a sharp  16-9 win.
  Junior Valdez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He  struck out seven batters over  4.1 innings while giving up just one earned  (and six unearned) runs off   two  hits. Valdez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than two  hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Valdez was even better at the plate,  going 3-for-4 with a  home run, four  runs,  and a  triple.
 In other batting news,  Chase Cassera was  incredible,  scoring two  runs and  stealing three bases while  getting on base  in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of  Chase Greviell, who  scored a  run while going 1-for-2.
 St. James' defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for GVCS Broadfording, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won nine of their last 12 games,  which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record  this season.
