Baseball Game Preview: DeMatha Stags vs. St. John's Cadets

DeMatha is 1-9 against St. John since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Stags will challenge the Cadets at 4:30 p.m. St. John's took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on DeMatha, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, DeMatha sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's Ryken. The Stags haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

DeMatha got a great performance from Grayson Candy as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Candy is becoming a predictor of the Stags' success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

At the plate, DeMatha saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Perlin, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was Perlin's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for St. John's offense. They fell 5-0 to Paul VI on Friday.

St. John's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3-1. As for DeMatha, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

DeMatha suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to St. John's in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Stags avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
