Softball Game Preview: Rio Americano Raiders vs. Ponderosa Bruins

Rio Americano hasn't had much luck against Ponderosa recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. Rio Americano has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rio Americano fell victim to Bella Vista and their airtight pitching crew last Wednesday. They came up short against the Broncos, falling 14-0. The Raiders just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.

Caroline Siler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.

Meanwhile, Ponderosa was able to grind out a solid win over Inderkum two weeks ago, taking the game 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.

Haley Warney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate McCartney, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Ellie Escobar also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Rio Americano's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Ponderosa, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rio Americano hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Ponderosa struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Rio Americano suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Ponderosa in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
