Baseball Game Preview: Ecorse Raiders vs. Cass Tech Technicians

The Ecorse Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Cass Tech Technicians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Ecorse is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Ecorse will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Clarenceville on Tuesday. The Raiders blew past the Trojans 16-7. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 13 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Elijah Carl and Kaleb Chandler were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Carl tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Chandler pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Carl got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base, while Chandler went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits Chandler has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Michael Barclay was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Korry Buxton, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

University Liggett hit Cass Tech with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The two teams finished up on equal footing with an 8-8 tie.

With that tie, Cass Tech's record moves to 40-11-1. As for Ecorse, their record now sits at 14-7.
