Basketball Recap: Gaston Christian Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Concord Academy

On Friday, Gaston Christian faced Concord Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The matchup between the Gaston Christian Eagles and the Concord Academy Eagles didn't end well, with the Gaston Christian Eagles falling 68-54. Gaston Christian hasn't had much luck with Concord Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Gaston Christian still got an impressive performance from Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Newman a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Dario Williams, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Concord Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gray Madeira out in front who went 8 for 13 en route to 22 points and three steals. Madeira is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Lincoln Raper was another key player, going 8 of 13 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Gaston Christian's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6. As for Concord Academy, they pushed their record up to 22-3 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season.

Gaston Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-36 defeat against Victory Christian Center on the 18th. Concord Academy has also already played their next contest, a 59-46 win against Hickory Ridge on the 18th.
