Baseball Game Preview: Pelham Pythons vs. Milford Spartans

Pelham and Milford are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Pythons are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Pelham will be strutting in after a victory while Milford will be coming in after a defeat.

Pelham lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lebanon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's matchup. The Pythons blew past the Raiders 7-1 on Monday. That six run margin sets a new team best for the Pythons this season.

Kevin Hardy made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pelham is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. Hardy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Kobe Berton and James Patchen did most of the damage at the plate: Berton went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Patchen got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Tyler Carvello also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Meanwhile, Milford came up short against Souhegan on Friday and fell 7-2. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Sabers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

The win got Pelham back to even at 3-3. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Pelham was able to grind out a solid victory over Milford in their previous matchup back in April, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pythons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
