Football Recap: Columbus East's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Columbus East had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the New Albany Bulldogs 49-28. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Olympians also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Columbus East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyson Villarreal led the charge by throwing for 236 yards and three TDs on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 76 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Villarreal has posted since back in October of 2024. A healthy portion of Villarreal's aerial production (85 yards to be exact) went to Mykel Jones.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Columbus East was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Columbus East now has a winning record of 3-2. As for New Albany, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Columbus East will challenge Floyd Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Olympians will need to watch out since the Highlanders have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. As for New Albany, they will face off against Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Dragons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.8 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
