Basketball Recap: East Lee County Comes Up Short

East Lee County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 65-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oasis Sharks. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the Sharks are ranked 233rd).

Leading Oasis to victory were Tessa Bexfield and Brynn Stambaugh. Bexfield posted 28 points and six rebounds, while Stambaugh had 29 points and eight assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Bexfield has scored at least a third of Oasis' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelynn Jakubowski, who earned six points and six rebounds.

East Lee County's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Oasis, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

After both having extra time off, East Lee County and North Fort Myers will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 11:00 a.m. on January 3rd. East Lee County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Oasis, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cape Coral at 11:00 a.m. on January 2nd.
