Baseball Recap: Webster County Has No Trouble Against Paden City

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gilmer County, Webster County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Paden City Wildcats 16-5. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won three matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Maddox Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Webster County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Greyden Channel, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Joston Lewis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Webster County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Webster County's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Paden City, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Webster County will host Greenbrier West at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders are facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Paden City, they will challenge Cameron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
