It was a good run, but Santa Maria unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Progreso Red Ants by a score of 2-1. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Red Ants when the teams met back in August of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Santa Maria started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-9, 15-10.

Santa Maria's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Progreso, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Santa Maria will face off against Valley View at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Progreso, they will take on Pace in a tournament on Friday.
