Volleyball Recap: Markesan Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Markesan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

While Markesan might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Cambria-Friesland scored at least eight points in every set they played. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 15-8.

Among those leading the charge was Lettie Heiling, who had nine digs and four aces. Those four aces gave her a new career-high. Greylyn Plath also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Markesan was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matchups.

Loss or not, Cambria-Friesland got some senior leadership from Janell Villareal and Enya Heller. Villareal had 26 digs and two aces, while Heller had 13 digs and four aces.

Markesan has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-16 record this season. As for Cambria-Friesland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Markesan will take on Almond-Bancroft at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cambria-Friesland, they will square off against Lomira at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
