Basketball Recap: Farmington Takes Down Ranked Rio Rancho

On Tuesday, Farmington faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Farmington Scorpions walked away with a 68-61 win over the Rio Rancho Rams. The Scorpions haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Farmington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sataurus Griego, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 13 points. Landon Begay was another key player, putting up nine points and seven assists.

Farmington was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 18-6 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the defeat, Rio Rancho saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah Lovato went 9-for-14 on his way to 24 points and five boards. Lovato is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Archuleta, who went 7-for-13 en route to 14 points.

Farmington's victory bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Rio Rancho, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-12.

Farmington wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-48 win against Cibola on the 26th. Rio Rancho does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
