Recap: Edgewood Red Wolves vs. Cocoa Beach Minutemen
The Edgewood Red Wolves lost against the Cocoa Beach Minutemen back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Edgewood took a hard 61-44 fall against Cocoa Beach. Edgewood has not had much luck with Cocoa Beach recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Edgewood saw an underclassman step up: Eddie Monterrubio scored 13 points along with two steals. Jeffrey Almeda was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
It was another big night for Jay Matthews, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and six assists for Cocoa Beach. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayesiah Carr, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Edgewood's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Cocoa Beach, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Merritt Island the next time they take the court. Cocoa Beach will head out to face Merritt Island at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Edgewood will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
