Baseball Recap: Thornton Comes Up Short

Thornton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-18 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Adams City Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 10-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Adams City, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.

For Adams City's part, Mauro Acosta made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Acosta has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Miguel Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
