Baseball Recap: Kouts Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Kouts waltzed into their contest on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the North Newton Spartans. The Mustangs & Fillies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matches by nine runs or more this season.

Noah Gudeman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Billy Miller and Cooper Whitaker did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Whitaker went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Whitaker has launched this season. Landon Garrett was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one triple.

Kouts always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Newton only posted an OBP of .308.

Kouts pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for North Newton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kouts will venture away from home to face off against Washington Township at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Newton, they will head out to challenge South Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
