Baseball Recap: Layton Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Layton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Weber Warriors 9-8. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Jowell Dasni, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zane Morgan, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Layton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in three consecutive games.

Layton's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Weber, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Coming up, Layton will square off against Davis at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Darts have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. As for Weber, they will take on Farmington at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
