Baseball Recap: Goshen Central Drops Season-High Score on Monticello

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen Central). Everything went their way against the Monticello Panthers on Wednesday as they made off with a 25-1 win. The Gladiators haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Anthony Crispino and Grant Musson were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Crispino pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Musson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Crispino went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Musson went 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Stephen Kovacs and F Mitterbauer did most of the damage at the plate: Kovacs fired off six RBI, three runs, and three doubles while going 5-for-5, while Mitterbauer got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Kovacs a new career-high. Marc Smith was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Goshen Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .646. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello only posted an OBP of .143.

Goshen Central's record now sits at 6-3. As for Monticello, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Goshen Central and Monticello could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Gladiators (ranked 157th) will meet Newburgh Free Academy (ranked 34th) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Monticello will challenge Cornwall Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (600 vs. 299).
