Softball Recap: West Panthers vs. Hunter Wolverines

West extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-8. They lost 26-1 to the Hunter Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 back in March.

Angelys Tapusoa made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Hunter, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Hunter's side, LEILA AIONO made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). AIONO has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, KENYA LAPUAHO was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. ALEXA OLSEN was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West will square off against Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.93 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hunter, they will take on Providence Hall in a tournament on Friday.
