Volleyball Recap: Pius X Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Pius X won the last time they faced Lincoln Northeast and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Thunderbolts had just enough and edged out the Rockets 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunderbolts have posted since September 19th.

Pius X wouldn't go down easily and took Lincoln Northeast into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 25-11, 17-15.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pius X to victory, but perhaps none more so than Whitney Mertens, who had 15 digs and four aces. Those 15 digs gave Mertens a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kami Wemhoff, who had 16 digs and two assists.

They weren't the only good servers: Pius X was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Northeast only served seven.

Addy Murrell and Patricia Mozee certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Murrell had 15 digs and three aces, while Mozee had 15 assists and ten digs. Murrell has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Awmenah Jantzen, who had eight digs and two aces.

The victory snapped Pius X's losing streak at four matches and leaves them with a 13-9 record. As for Lincoln Northeast, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Pius X didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Duchesne on the 2nd. As for Lincoln Northeast, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Waverly on the 3rd.
