Football Game Preview: Northeast Vikings vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils

Northeast is 1-7 against St. Petersburg since March of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Vikings will challenge the Green Devils at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Northeast sitting on six straight wins and St. Petersburg on five.

Northeast is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Osceola by a score of 13-6. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Vikings' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Warriors are ranked 95th).

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 32-0 win over Southeast. The Green Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 21 points or more this season.

St. Petersburg's win came from a few key players Northeast will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ellie Swain, who rushed for 33 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for one yards and one touchdown on her only pass of the game. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Mar'Quaysha Curry was another key player, throwing for 180 yards and a pair of TDs.

St. Petersburg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Samyra Garrett and Madison Harting.

St. Petersburg's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Northeast suffered a grim 31-6 defeat to St. Petersburg in their previous meeting back in February. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Swain, who picked up 47 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 38 yards and one touchdown.
