Baseball Game Preview: Hamilton Heights Huskies vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

The Hamilton Heights Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the McCutcheon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton Heights is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Hamilton Heights lost 12-4 to Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday.

Hamilton Heights saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adam Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, McCutcheon earned an 8-3 victory over Benton Central on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won nine in a row.

Reed Grimes tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Zayne Newgent and Aiden Riser did most of the damage at the plate: Newgent went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Riser went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Riser is becoming a predictor of McCutcheon's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Jon Riley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hamilton Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for McCutcheon, their record is now 9-10.

Hamilton Heights couldn't quite finish off McCutcheon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
