Softball Game Preview: Meridian Mustangs vs. Liberty Eagles

The Meridian Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Liberty Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meridian has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Meridian came up short against Oakton on Thursday, falling 16-6. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elena Clark-Wilson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Meridian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Claire Dissira, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over Dominion on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
