Baseball Game Preview: Lafayette Lions vs. Sam Houston Broncos

Lafayette is 1-9 against Sam Houston since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lions will take on the Broncos at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lafayette 3.3, Sam Houston 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lafayette is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Sulphur.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sam Houston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against DeQuincy by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Broncos as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Sam Houston pushed their record up to 24-7 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.

Lafayette suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Sam Houston in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
