Football Recap: Monte Vista Takes a Loss

After flying high against California last Friday, Monte Vista came back down to earth. The Mustangs came up short against the Amador Valley Dons on Friday, falling 35-14. The Mustangs have struggled against the Dons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Although Monte Vista took the loss, they still got scores from Grant Maina and Ian Ondricek.

Amador Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicco Kovacs, who threw for 320 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards. Those three passing touchdowns gave Kovacs a new career-high. Vincent Maiorana was another key back, rushing for 100 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Monte Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Amador Valley, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-6.

Monte Vista has already played their next contest, a 28-10 loss against San Ramon Valley on the 7th. As for Amador Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-35 win against California on the 7th.
