Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Iliana Dorvilus and Erialys Lopez Lead Colonial to Victory

Colonial won the last time they faced Central Florida Christian Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Colonial Grenadiers snuck past the Central Florida Christian Academy Eagles with a 49-43 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Grenadiers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Eagles are ranked 42nd).

Colonial was led to victory by Erialys Lopez and Iliana Dorvilus. Lopez posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks, while Dorvilus went 5 for 7 on her way to 13 points and five boards. Those three blocks gave Lopez a new career-high. Yaneyla Pedraza was another key player, putting up ten points.

The victory was the third in a row for Colonial, bringing their record for this year to 10-11. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Central Florida Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colonial will square off against Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Horizon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season. As for Central Florida Christian Academy, they will challenge Ocoee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ocoee also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 59 points per game.
