Two national track records were broken this week during the power-packed New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.

Cornwall Central (New Windsor, N.Y.) senior Aisling Cuffe made her final high school meet a memorable one by winning the two-mile run in a national-record time of 9 minutes, 54.22 seconds. The previous record of 10:01.08 was set in 2002 by Molly Huddle of Notre Dame (Elmira, N.Y.).

The Long Beach Poly (Calif.) boys 4x800 relay team established the other national record with a 7:28.75 clocking, which lowered the previous standard of 7:30.67 by Albemarle (Va.) in 2009. The four seniors were Christopher Hall, Christian Penn, Aaron Harris and Myles Andrews, who anchored with a blazing 1:47.71.

Charlotte (Punta Gorda, Fla.) finished second to Poly, also bettering the previous record with a 7:30.31 effort. All four members ran lifetime bests.

Kell (Marietta, Ga.) star Kendell Williams set a national sophomore class record by winning the heptathlon with 5,169 points.

Mary Cain, one of three freshmen, ran a superb 2:03.74 anchor to lead Bronxville (Bronxville, N.Y.) to an 8:49.85 victory – No. 4 all-time – in the 4x800 relay.
