The Basalt Longhorns will face off against the Rifle Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Basalt will be strutting in after a victory while Rifle will be coming in after a loss.

Basalt is headed out to face Rifle after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Basalt blew past Arvada 40-8 at home last Saturday. The Longhorns pushed the score to 40-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

William Daniel was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 82-yard run. Taylor Hays was another key player, gaining 99 total yards and two touchdowns.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Basalt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 313 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arvada only rushed for 95.

Basalt's defense made their presence known, laying out Anthony Miller. three times. Owen Lindt was especially locked on to Arvada's QB and sacked him twice. Lindt also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks, making two total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defending a pass.

Rifle kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were dealt a 48-0 defeat at the hands of Grand Junction.

Basalt was dealt a bruising 55-27 loss at the hands of Rifle in their previous meeting back in October of 2023. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Basalt was down 35-7.
