Recap: Guadalupe Centers Aztecs vs. Independence Home School Lions

The Guadalupe Centers Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 79-39 loss at the hands of Independence Home School. While losing is never fun, Guadalupe Centers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 588th in Missouri, while Independence Home School is ranked 277th in Kansas).

Guadalupe Centers lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Luis Popoca, who scored eight points along with eight assists and three steals. It was the first time this season that Popoca posted eight or more assists. Mario Carbajal Valesques was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Isaac Daniels was nothing short of spectacular for Independence Home School: he scored 33 points. It was the first time this season that Daniels scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Philip Cresswell, who scored 11 points.

Guadalupe Centers dropped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Independence Home School, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Guadalupe Centers will head out on the road to take on The Daniel Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Independence Home School, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri at 5:00 p.m.
