Basketball Recap: Ruth Fox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Minto over Walter Northway

Minto was the 44-41 winner over Walter Northway when they last played one another last Saturday, but their luck changed this time around. The Minto Lakers opened the new year with a less-than-successful 45-37 defeat to the Walter Northway Warriors. The Lakers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Minto's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ruth Fox, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jena Smith, who put up 12 points.

Minto's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Walter Northway, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minto will take on Nelson Island in a tournament on Wednesday. As for Walter Northway, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Birchwood Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 21st.
