Basketball Recap: Portage Snags Tenth Victory in Last 12 Games

Portage entered their tilt with Homer-Center on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 64-47 win over the Homer-Center Wildcats. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 330th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Portage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bode Layo out in front who went 7 for 14 on his way to 18 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Layo a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trae Kargo, who went 7 of 16 en route to 16 points and six assists.

Portage has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Homer-Center, they dropped their record down to 13-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Portage will take on West Shamokin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. West Shamokin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season. As for Homer-Center, they will head out on the road to square off against Punxsutawney at 7:30 p.m. on February 12th.
